A vida é assim, não adianta você ficar esperando ela te dar tempo para você por em dia tudo, ela vai caminhando. Ou você corre ou se embola 🙂
O ano de 2005 foi o ano mais marcante pra mim na minha história com o Linuxchix Brasil. Fizemos o nosso primeiro evento itinerante, em Belo Horizonte, que nos encheu de alegria e orgulho. Logo depois, no FISL 6.0, nosso stand foi ponto de referência para todos os visitantes. E no último dia do evento, eu tive um momento de iluminação e soube que dali pra frente eu precisava trabalhar minha substituição no grupo. Estes dois marcos no grupo foram possíveis devido a idéias e ações das integrantes, e eu vi que eu tinha praticamente esgotado as idéias que poderia fazer para transformar o grupo e fazê-lo crescer.
Um dos grandes problemas de muitos projetos, sejam eles profissionais, comunitários ou até pessoais, como relacionamentos, é reconhecer o momento de sair da zona de conforto para continuar crescendo. O Linuxchix Brasil precisa de sangue novo, de idéias novas, de novos direcionamentos. Eu sou muito orgulhosa da transformação que proporcionei ao grupo, mas a minha marca, a minha cara é muito presente nele, e eu não tenho muitas novas idéias.
Um dos grandes objetivos para a grande chamada para novas voluntárias foi fortalecer ou encontrar pessoas que pudessem e quisessem assumir a coordenação do grupo. Praticamente todas sabem que além dos problemas comuns a qualquer projeto FOSS – como encontrar ajuda, como manter os voluntários, como lidar com conflitos – ainda temos os trolls diretamente interessados em desfazer um grupo de incentivo a mulher. E mais algumas antipatias pessoais, direcionadas exclusivamente a minha pessoa, mas que acabavam por prejudicar o grupo todo, quando para barrarem alguma oportunidade para mim, barravam todo o grupo. Mas mesmo assim, crescemos e multiplicamo-nos!
Porém, quando eu achei que estava chegando a hora de buscar novos rumos, eis que eles surgem sem esperar. Quando da resignação de Jenn Vesperman, fui uma das indicadas para a coordenação do Linuxchix Internacional, embora a popularidade de Mary fosse maciça. Achei que ela faria um trabalho muito melhor que o meu, então declinei e apoiei sua candidatura. Porém depois de tudo que aconteceu, talvez eu pudesse ter feito um trabalho bom. Então quando me indicaram novamente, aceitei concorrer a eleição. Decidimos ao invés de ter uma única e suprema coordenadora, ter um trio – doravente denominado Trés Chix – e escolhido por votação aberta. Que terminou ontem, então juntamente com Akkana Peck e Carla Schroder, fui eleita uma das coordenadoras do Projeto Linuxchix Internacional.
E tudo isto vem combinado com o fato de que duas valorosas voluntárias tem cada vez mais se envolvido no Linuxchix Brasil, então me senti confortável em aceitar a nova designação. Temos diversas importantes participantes, porém as duas corajosas aceitaram assumir a responsabilidade e dedicação que envolve ser responsável pelo projeto. Então, a partir de hoje, enquanto eu assumo como uma das Trés Chix, Priscilla Pimenta e Ana Carolina Comandulli assumem como coordenadoras do Linuxchix Brasil.
Entre as primeiras mudanças, provavelmente a mais marcante será a impressão da marca Debian no servidor 🙂 eu dou a maior força, tudo para que o trabalho delas seja mais produtivo. Mas claro que não é só isto. Eu continuo no backstage, pois provavelmente ainda tem senhas e coisas que eu ainda não lembrei de falar. Mas agora, é com vocês meninas. Eu tenho plena confiança que elas vão dar conta do recado, e que juntas serão ainda mais fortes.
Mais uma página virada, mais uma página em branco. Eu passo agora a caneta a vocês. A história, daqui pra frente, vocês escrevem. “Sucesso! Porque sorte é pra principiante” – by Priscilla 🙂

2005 was the most memorable year in my history with Linuxchix Brasil. We did our first roaming conference, in Belo Horizonte, which we enjoyed like crazy and made us all very proud of it. A month later, at FISL 6.0, our booth was a hit, everybody wanted to take a picture inside it. And in the last day of FISL, I had an epiphany and I realize I needed to start working someone to replace me heading of the group. The two major moments for the group were possible because we joined ideas, suggestion and action from several volunteers, and I saw I had run out of new ideas of what could I do to make the group grow.
One of the major problems for a lot of projects, professional, volunteer or personal projects, is to recognize when had come the time you need to step out the comfort zone and keep growing. At that point, I knew the Linuxchix Brazil needed fresh blood 🙂 new ideas, new ways to do things. I’m very proud of my work in the group, but my fingerprint is too present, and I don’t have new ideas anymore.
One of the objectives behind my call for volunteers on the beginning of this year was to get more volunteer or encourage people already engaged to learn more and maybe assume the group at some point. I believe all of them knew the problems involved. All of the usual problems of any FOSS project – finding help, keep volunteers motivated, deal with conflicts – we had a plus with the trolls directly intending to disturb a female group. And plus some personal conflicts people had against me, but use that as an excuse to attack or act against the whole group. But even so, we were fruitful and multiple!
But, when I thought was the time to search for new objectives, they came after me. When Jenn Vesperman resignated from the Linuxchix coordinator role, I was one of the nominated, although Mary was undoubtly the favorite. I thought would be better for the group to have her, so I declined. But since everything that happened, I maybe would be useful for the group. So when I was nominated again, I accepted and ran for the election. We all decided this time to have a three insted of just one coordinator – now called Trés Chix – and elected by voting from anyone involved on the group. Which had finished yesterday, so together with Akkana Peck and Carla Schroder, I’m one of the coordinators of Linuxchix project.
And all this come together with the fact that two valuable volunteers have more and more getting involved in Linuxchix Brazil, so I’m comfortable with accepting the new designation. We have several important chix involved, but those two are brave enough to acept the responsability and dedication that is to be THE responsable for the project. So, from now, as I’m one of the Trés Chix, Priscilla Pimenta and Ana Carolina Comandulli are the coordinators for Linuxchix Brazil.
In the first changes, they have in mind changing the server to a Debian one 🙂 I totally support it, whatever makes them comfortable and productive. But it is not just that, of course. I will be always on the backstage, probably there is any password or things I don’t remember right now. But now it is with you, sistahs. I strongly believe you will do a great job.
